Philip Kingsley #HelloSummer Range
Not long back I was very kindly offered the chance to try some products from the Philip Kingsley #HelloSummer range. As someone who is always on the look out for new haircare products, I jumped at the chance. I was very kindly sent a great package. Here are my thoughts on the products inside.
Philip Kingsley Swimcap
The first product I received from the Philip Kingsley #HelloSummer range was the Philip Kingsley Swimcap. This product is a protective hair cream that claims to guard against chlorinated and salt water. It contains a sunscreen to extend the life of colour treated hair. Now at the moment, I am rocking my natural hair colour so I don’t really need to prolong any colour. However, the product also claims to also protect against dryness from the sun.
To use this product you simply apply it to damp hair and comb through. You can then sunbathe, swim and enjoy the sunshine. To remove, simply shampoo and condition your hair. Now I’ll be honest, I love the concept of this product. However, as someone who hasn’t been on holiday recently or able to get to the beach, I just haven’t had a chance to try it out. This product isn’t something I can exactly try out when out and about in a city centre or around my local town. I mean I’d love to protect my hair. However, I just don’t fancy walking round with a damp mop. Get my drift?
That being said, if I was going on holiday I’d definitely be reaching for this. So although I cannot say whether it works or not, I can tell you that I like the concept. Oh and here’s a fun fact for you, Swimcap was originally created for the US Olympic synchronised swim team. It’s also said to be a favourite amongst professional swimmers. In terms of price, Swimcap retails at £15.00 for 75ml.
Philip Kingsley After-Sun Scalpmask
The second product I received from the Philip Kingsley #HelloSummer range was the Philip Kingsley After-Sun Scalpmask. The product is an after-sun hair mask treatment that can be used as a calming treatment for sore scalps. Burnt your scalp or feeling a bit sore after a day in the sun? Try this bad boy out. Infused with Chamomile Extract and Aloe Vera, this treatment can be used to not only soothe the scalp but also to keep it hydrated.
To apply simply parten damp hair and gently apply to the scalp working from the front of the head to the back. Then gently massage and leave it on for 10-20 minutes before rinsing, shampooing and conditioning the hair. Once on I found the After-Sun Scalp Mask felt very cooling and soothing. It also had a lovely refreshing scent to it which I really enjoyed. Removal of the product was incredibly easy and my hair didn’t feel greasy or weighed down after use.
Now although this product is part of the #HelloSummer range, there really isn’t anything stopping you from using this all year round. For example, I’ve used this product after being in the sun. However, I’ve also used it after having my hair tied up on a rainy day. On both occasions, it worked fantastically. In terms of price, the After-Sun Scalpmask retails at £17.00 for 74ml.
Philip Kingsley Instant Beach Texturizing Spray
The third product I received from the Philip Kingsley #HelloSummer range was the Philip Kingsley Instant Beach Texturizing Spray. This product is a salt-free texturizing spray for beachy waves. Unlike a lot of sprays for creating beachy waves, this does not at all dry my hair out. It does have a slightly sticky formula but once dry you don’t notice it.
To apply, you simply pop it on either dry or damp hair, let it dry naturally and then scrunch or twist sections of the hair. Did it create fantastic beach waves for me? Not exactly. However, I’m yet to find a product that can. Because my hair is so thick and heavy it just doesn’t hold any waves or curls. Even when it comes to heated curlers my hair drops unbelievably quickly. Having said that there was a very slight wave so it performed better than a lot of product I’ve previously tried. As for the price tag, the Instant Beach Texturizing Spray retails at £22.00 for 100ml.
Philip Kingsley Sun Shield UV Defence
The fourth product I received from the Philip Kingsley #HelloSummer range was the Philip Kingsley Sun Shield UV Defence. This product is a two in one sun protection and frizz control product. The product claims to be a lightweight nourishing mist that protects against colour fade, UV damage, chlorine and salt water. To use it you just simply spray onto the hair and leave in to dry naturally. Now although I cannot 100% confirm that it protects against UV rays, I can tell you that when I have used this product my hair has felt in great condition.
You know how sometimes when you’ve been out in the sun your hair can feel a bit dry and crispy? That does not occur when you use the Sun Shield UV defence. The spray just gives your hair a lovely softness and a slight hydrating boost. As for the price, the Sun Shield UV Defence retails at £22.00 for 100ml.
Philip Kingsley Coconut Breeze Elasticizer
Another Philip Kingsley product that I have been really loving so much that I mentioned it in my June 2017 favourites is the Coconut Breeze Elasticizer. This product is a conditioning pre-shampoo hair treatment. Inspired by the Kingsley’s love for America’s West Coast, the Coconut Breeze Elasticizer features notes of bergamot, orange and soft peach along with coconut, jasmine and vanilla. In a nutshell, this Elasticizer smells like Summer in a tub.
To use this product you apply it to damp hair at the mid-lengths and leave it on either overnight or for 10-20 minutes. It’s also good to cover your hair with either the cap provided or with a towel. This is because the heat is said to help the nutrients in the product fully absorb into the hair. Once you’re ready to remove the product simply shampoo and condition your hair as normal. You can even double shampoo if you’re afraid of excess product residue being left on your hair.
I’ve used the product both overnight and for the shorter amount of time too. My favourite way to use the Elasticizer is to use if overnight. Not only is it fairly comfortable to sleep in, once rinsed out in the morning and I’ve shampooed, conditioned and dried my hair, my hair looks and feels amazing. It is so soft, healthy looking and has a gorgeous shine to it. I think this is definitely one of those great products that I will most definitely be purchasing over and over again in the future. As for the price, the Coconut Breeze Elasticizer retails at £33.00 for 150ml.
