Over the past year, I’ve really found what works for me and my skin in terms of makeup. I’ve found “safe” colours and products that I can trust and can reach for regularly with confidence. Now that I’ve truly found my go-to products this last year I have a new goal. That goal? To experiment with more colour and really push my comfort zone. However, I thought I’d give some love to those real staples in my collection that have gotten so much use over the last year. In total for me, there have been 14 products that have really stood out. So without further ado, here are the best makeup products that have stood out for me this last year.
Foundation and Base Makeup
In terms of base makeup, there has been one primer that stood out for me and that was The Ordinary High-Adherance Silicone Primer. This primer works so well with my dry skin and just smooths everything unbelievably well. It gives me the perfect smooth base ready for my foundation. The best bit? It’s cheap as chips. Seriously, the smoothing primer is £3.99, a total steal. Another of the best makeup products I’ve been using on a regular basis is The Ordinary Serum Foundation. This is a really lightweight foundation that lasts well on my skin and blends nicely with my Beauty Blender. It evens out my skin tone well, tackles my redness and gives me natural coverage. It’s perfect for a really toned down day to day look.
Two foundations, two different types of coverage
For those days where I’ve wanted a more full coverage look, I’ve been grabbing the Revolution Beauty Foundation Drops. This medium to full coverage foundation works wonderfully with my skin type and provides with me with a truly gorgeous flawless finish. This is quite possibly my all-time favourite foundation. One thing I’ve struggled with for years is contouring. As I’m not only pale but cool toned finding a shade that doesn’t appear muddy on me has been challenging. Enter the NYX Blush in Taupe. This product has been a game changer for me. I can achieve those faux defining shadows with ease with this cool-toned contouring powder. Not a muddy looking patch in sight!
Another one of the best makeup products? The MAC Blush in Dame. Now, this blue-pink blush is pricey at £19.50 but I think it is worth it. I’ve used this pretty much non stop for a really light wash of colour. The blush doesn’t have amazing pigmentation but it gives me a nice amount of healthy-looking colour that compliments my skin tone well. I’ve also been teaming the expensive blush with a very affordable pink highlighter. That highlighter? The MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powder in Pink Shimmer. This gives me a lovely glow without being too over the top. It blends well and the colour is stunning, to say the least.
Eyeshadows and brow products
When it comes to brow products I’ve pretty much been rocking pretty natural brows. However, one product I do swear by is Technic Brow Gel in Medium. This affordable tinted brow gel works wonderfully at keeping all my hairs in place. It’s a little on the dark side but I can work with it. As for other eye-related products I’ve been loving the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara. The collagen mascara gives me brilliant dramatic volume without clumping. It’s a true gem of a product.
Urban Decay eyeshadows have come out on top and rightly so
In terms of eyeshadow, one palette has been reached for more than any other. That palette? The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. This pink toned nude palette is honestly a huge staple in my makeup collection. I have created so, so many looks with this eyeshadow collection. From day time looks to more dramatic looks, all can be achieved with Naked 3. My two standout colours? Dust and Blackheart. Polar opposites but both stunning in their own right.
Another palette I’ve been using frequently in the past year? The Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette. This mini nude eyeshadow palette is made up of six silky soft matte shades that are perfect for creating a toned down work appropriate makeup look. Oh and the shade Frisk is an excellent contouring shade. This is for sure one of the best makeup products in my collection.
Lipsticks and lip products
When it comes to lip products my ultimate favourite of the year has been the Revolution Beauty Haunted Lipstick Collection Lipstick in the shade Corpse Bride. The deep mauve toned brown lipstick appears to have been a limited edition Halloween shade which makes me super sad. The colour honestly is the most beautiful shade and works so, so well for me. Plus the packaging of the lippy is pretty badass too. I’ve also been pretty partial to a liquid lipstick over the past year. The Revolution Beauty Matte Liquid Lipstick in Buff particularly took my fancy. The pretty pink nude liquid lippy is great for day to day wear and the formula is easy to work with.
Another product from the brand I’ve been loving has been the Revolution Beauty Matte Liquid Lipstick in Stripped. This soft brown matte liquid lipstick is darker than Buff and the contrast between the shade and my skin tone is super effective. Once again the formula is easy to work with albeit a little drying. The final of the best makeup products I’ve been using for the last year has been the W7 Skinny Lipping Liquid Lipstick in Off The Wall. The peachy toned nude brown lipstick dries fast to a beautiful slightly dark nude. The contrast, much like the case with Stripped, works well for me.
So there you have it, 14 of the best makeup products I’ve used in the last year. What products have you used non-stop this past year?
