May 2014 Birchbox | Harper's Bazaar Box | Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Mascara, Soigne Nail Lacquer in Cerise, Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath & Shower Oil, Philip Kingsley One More Day Dry Shampoo, Laura Mercier Face Polish and Imedeen Derma One
Recently I was very kindly sent the May 2014 Harper’s Bazaar Box from the lovely people over at Birchbox. If you’re not aware of Birchbox already, it’s a monthly beauty subscription box which retails at £10 + £2.95 postage and packaging a month. In the box you receive 5 luxe samples (sometimes you even get full size products and sometimes they give you little extra treats) The box I received was their May 2014 Harper’s Bazaar box, a collaboration with experts from the famous magazine who put together an exclusive collection of products all designed to prepare for a season’s worth of outdoor adventures. The box also came along with a cute little magazine packed full of tips from Harper’s Bazaar beauty director Sophie Bloomfield and of course Birchbox’s very own editors. First impressions? Well as soon as I laid eyes on the utterly stunning packaging, I was super duper excited to see what goodies the box held. The products I received were…
Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara (30ml sample size) full size RRP £19.50
The first item I spotted in my box was this beauty and I must admit I was excited. I’ve heard amazing things about They’re Real and after trying it out I was certainly impressed and can definitely see what all the hype is about. If you’re not sure what They’re Real is, it’s a jet-black mascara which claims to add both length and volume to all types of lashes. I will no doubt be doing a review of the mascara so if you want to hear a little more about it or want to find out what I think of it, keep your eyes peeled for that.
Soigne Nail Lacquer in Cerise (full size) RRP £11.00
The next product that caught my eye was the Soigne Nail Lacquer in Cerise, a non-toxic polish. Cerise is a gorgeous deep pink toned red. Although I’d say it’s more of a Autumn/Winter shade, it’s gorgeous nevertheless and I’m actually planning on sporting it on my upcoming birthday when I team it up with a classic black dress.
Aromatherapy Associates Revive Morning Bath & Shower Oil (3ml sample size) full size RRP £39.00
I’m a massive fan of oils and love covering myself in the stuff to tackle scarring, stretch marks and to keep my skin in tip top soft condition but I’ve not really delved into bath and shower oils that much. From what I’ve read you simply add a capful to your bath or smooth it all over your body before showering to soften the skin and uplift your mood. This particular oil I received was from natural skincare brand Aromatherapy Associates which I’ve heard many bloggers talk about before. At £39.00 for the full size there’s no denying that it’s a tad pricey but maybe the cute little sample will convince me that I need to purchase it but we’ll see.
Philip Kingsley One More Day Dry Shampoo (50ml sample size) full size RRP £13.50
I’m not that big on hair products, I mean I love a good oil and mask every now and again and of course opt for the compulsory products like shampoo and conditioner but I don’t tend to go crazy for fancy sprays and what now. However, one spray that I love and couldn’t live without is dry shampoo so of course I was thrilled to see a nice little travel size can in the box which is obviously perfect for travelling and weekends away. The dry shampoo is from Philip Kingsley, a brand I’ve not personally tried but I’m excited to give it a go. The dry shampoo basically claims to be lightweight and able to refresh second-day hair. I’ve not tried it yet, however I did have a cheeky little spray to check out the scent and it smells great so I’m hoping the results are just as good.
Laura Mercier Face Polish 11.3g (sample size) full size RRP £25.50
I then received an adorable (and nicely sized) sample of the Laura Mercier Face Polish. I’m always a fan of exfoliators and scrubs so this was a great product for me to get in my box. It claims to be a creamy scrub with purifying microbeads that cleanse skin and buff away dead skin cells and claims to give radiant results. It sounds great and I can’t wait to give it a try.
Imedeen Derma One (full size) RRP £37.99
Last but not least I received a one month supply of Imedeen Derma One tablets. At first I was a little confused but upon a little inspection I understood. Basically they’re tablets designed to tackle anti-ageing from the inside. Essentially they’re Zinc and Vitamin C supplements but they claim to help improve skin quality, moisture balance, radiance and texture by making skin smoother, softer and more supple. I’ll be honest, I won’t be giving these a try because firstly they’re for those aged 30+ (I’m 19) and secondly the main ingredient is fish protein (I have a slight intolerance to fish, so it’s sometimes better to be safe than sorry) however, I have passed the tablets onto my sister who is going to get some use out of them.
Overall I’d say I’m very, very happy with the box I received and would have happily paid for it as the products I got were some of the best from a subscription box. Of course I’ve passed on the anti ageing tablets which happened to be my “lifestyle extra” but as for the rest of the products I will be trying them all out and will no doubt get some little reviews up once I’ve gave them a thorough testing.
