Want to know my thoughts on the Silk + Honey Shea Butter Hair Mask?
Recently I was sent the amazing June 2014 Global Strikers Birchbox which contained this fabulous hair mask from a brand I’d never heard of called Silk + Honey. Before using the mask I did a little research on the company and found that it was actually created by a Chicago born and raised lady called Sharonda Flynn who now lives in London.
Sharonda realized that a lot of store bought cosmetics and products contained potentially toxic chemicals and she became passionate about creating her own products, using only natural ingredients. Sharonda had previously experimented with natural beauty for over eight years and used her friends, family and herself to test the products out. She even won praise from her once sceptical friends. She even shared her beauty secrets with others via blogs and found people really responded to her homemade remedies. But she felt it was time to take it to the next level by showing you how to make amazing skincare, hair products and even makeup in your own kitchen with kits available to purchase from her company, Silk + Honey which launched in February 2014.
It’s also worth noting that the products from Silk + Honey are truly 100% organic and that they are free from parabens, artificial colours, PEGs, mineral oils, aluminium chlorohydrate, silicones, formaldehyde, phthalates, petrochemicals (apart from nature identicals), GMO and synthetic perfumes. Plus they come in environmentally friendly as possible packaging as Silk + Honey embraces green living.
So I received the Silk + Honey Shea Butter Hair Mask. Now you can’t actually buy the mask made up but you can purchase the DIY Silk + Honey Shea Butter Hair Conditioning Mask Kit on the Birchbox website for a eye watering £55.00. Personally I think the mask is very, very good however, for me the price tag is kind of extortionate. If it was slightly cheaper I’d probably pick it up as it’s a product that I find works well for me. Anyway, enough about the price, here are my thoughts on the mask itself:
The mask claims to be deep nourishing and helps to protect and soften the hair while fortifying its elasticity. Now I’m no expect when it comes to the science-y stuff of products so I can’t say whether it really does this stuff but every time I have used the mask it has conditioned my hair wonderfully. It leaves it super soft and gives it the most beautiful shine. It doesn’t leave the hair feeling heavy or full of product which is a big plus for me as I already have super thick locks so the last thing I want is more weight. The scent of the mask is simply lovely. It’s very much rose-esque which reminds me of delicious Turkish delight. The way I use the mask is simply how it is advised, I wash my hair with my trusty shampoo and then pop the mask on. Although it doesn’t state that you have to leave it on for a set amount of time, I like to keep it on for around 5-10 minutes. Once the time is up I rinse it off with warm water and hey presto I’m done. The one thing I will say is that I have very, very long hair and I use just a tiny bit out of the 50ml tub to cover my whole head as I find a little goes a long way and you don’t need heaps of the mask for it to work wonders. All in all I think the mask is spot on. It does a good job at making the hair look and feel nice plus the natural ingredient content is a lovely thing to spot however, I think the price of the full size kit is very, very pricey and due to this I think a lot of people will be put off buying it which is a real shame.
What’s your favourite hair mask?
