Are You Bored Of Monthly Beauty Boxes Like Me?

When monthly beauty boxes first started appearing on the market I was super excited. The fact that I could pay roughly £12 a month to receive a surprise box filled will little products really, really excited me as I am a person who loves trying out and discovering new products. However, as they years have gone on, the novelty sadly has worn off for me and I’ve become bored and unimpressed with each monthly subscription box that I receive. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the one off and limited/special edition boxes that brands release (Ahem, Latest In Beauty) but the monthly subscription services like Birchbox and Glossybox have just become so unappealing and boring. My biggest pet peeve would definitely have to be receiving the same products over and over again. Take the box above for example, see the REN Instant Firming Beauty Shot, the Pixi By Petra Lip Balm and the Beauty Protector Leave-In Conditioner? I already received ALL three products in a previous box, by the same company so I’ve already tried each product. To put it bluntly if I enjoyed the product after already trying it, I would have certainly went out and purchased said product, in a full size version. For me the whole point of a beauty box is a to try products I wouldn’t necessarily think of purchasing and hopefully discover some new beauty staples to add into my regime. I don’t want to be sent the same products month after month. My second biggest pet peeve is receiving teeny tiny samples in my boxes. Now I understand that typically the boxes contain samples to try the product out, not full size versions however, I do think that beauty box companies do take the mick a little when they give you teeny tiny sachet samples and little vials of perfume which I could easily obtain myself, for free. When I get a box I expect to see what I class as premium samples, you no what I mean, a miniature bottle or tube of product. For me receiving a 1ml sample of something doesn’t do it for me as I can barely form an opinion on something if I don’t even have enough for a full application. When I pay £12+ for a box and I get a handful of sachets to put it bluntly, it really angers me and I feel as though I’ve been well and truly ripped off. Now I will say that over the past year or so I have spotted a lot of subscription services really trying to up their game in terms of packaging. Sure I love that they’re putting more effort into box designs but ultimately I purchase beauty boxes for the beauty products within, not the outer appearance. I’d much prefer it if they used a standard, cheaper box, much like the original Birchbox design which was a simple style, and invested more of the money that I’m paying to purchase into actual products because some months it honestly feels like its been a last minute rake through their drawers just to make up a box. It makes the service feel as though it isn’t well planned out and it also annoys me to no end when there has quite clearly been very little consideration made in terms of individual skin type and hair types which for me often means that I end up with a bunch of things that I cannot use as they just aren’t suitable for me. Basically it has gotten to the point where I really don’t think that many boxes are worth my £12+ and I’d rather spend the money on a product that is worth it and one that will be suitable for me.

How do you feel about monthly beauty subscription boxes? Are you bored of them like me?
