Which Brands Produce The Best Matte Eyeshadows?

Some might find it quite surprisingly but until last year I really, really despised matte eyeshadows. I thought they had poor pigmentation, they were dusty and I certainly did not like the look of them on my lids. I tried a lot of affordable brands and all seemed to be the same in terms of quality. Having said that I do think Makeup Revolution matte finish eyeshadows are probably the best on the British highstreet, but what are the ultimate best matte shadows in my opinion? Well for me two brands really stand out when it comes to matte eyeshadows. One is a very well known high brand, the other is an Italian brand that produces very affordable shadows. The first brand is of course Urban Decay. Ever since I tried the Naked 2 Basics Palette I started to love using mattes. The quality of the shimmer and metallic Urban Decay shadows are impressive but their matte shades really are something special, especially in comparison to other brands out there. They’re nicely pigmented and super, super silky. They also don’t apply streaky or patchy like a lot of brands and although they do have a little fall out, they are a vast improvement on those highstreet brand versions. My favourite Urban Decay mattes are definitely Frisk and Primal as they’re both super pretty everyday shades that you can combine to create a quick, easy and effortless look. The second brand that I think produces top notch shadows is of course Neve Cosmetics. Recently I was sent the super gorgeous Elagantissimi Eyeshadow Palette which is a neutral filled combination palette. Two really great mattes in that palette are Coco and Black Sheep. Firstly the oddly named Coco is a super bright classic matte white. It is ideal for use on the brow bone as you don’t get that high gleam shine but it does brighten up the eye area nicely so it is good for day to day wear. It also works well on the inner corner too. Now Coco is a teeny bit dusty, but it isn’t anything major and I find the fallout is minimal. The pigmentation is excellent, especially considering the shadow costs just €4.20 (Approx. £3.00) The second eyeshadow from Neve Cosmetics that is matte and I love is Black Sheep. Now this is seriously the best matte black eyeshadow that I have ever tried. It is a true matte black shade and the pigmentation is incredibly good. It is prone to a little fallout so I would recommend applying before the rest of your face makeup to avoid panda eyes but apart from that I cannot fault it at all. It is long lasting on me and it blends beautifully well with the help of my trusty blending brush. I like to use the shade in the outer corner of my eye to really add depth and to vamp up my eye look. So yes, if you are after good quality matte finish shadows, I really recommend looking into the Urban Decay range as well as the Neve Cosmetics range.
